“Self-educated people are in a class by themselves.”
(I googled it. No hits. I’m the first to think of it.)

Very nice. Did it just pop into your head or were you trying to come up with something clever about the subject?
[James' Reply: Actually it came up when I was trying to explain how autodidacts try to compete by being unique, rather than being farther along on a standardized yardstick. The sentence occurred to me naturally... and then I noticed it was also a play on words, as well as being a sort of paradox.]

“a class of their own” might pick up a few more hits - in trying it I found this:

I have vague memories of reading Illich’s work about a decade ago.

First thought - “that’s pretty funny”
Second thought was “Since when did Google become the oracle for original thought and determining first’ness?
Third thought was based off the second - “What is the world coming to”
Fourth thought “How did people know if something was orginal before the internet?”
Fifth thought “Does it really matter who was “first”?”
Sixth thought “Does it matter that I’m putting thought into this? Does anyone care? Do these thoughts provide any value now that I’ve typed them out?”
[James' Reply: I like people who think in layers. Kudos, sensei.]

Clever, but not original - it’s been around for a few years (as I have). Still a good one though.
